An adult learning community of books, plants, discussion, and hands-on herbal education.
The Herbal Study Circle™ is ARHS’s adult learning community where books, plants, stories, and shared knowledge come together. Participants explore herbalism through reading, discussion, plant studies, seasonal topics, hands-on activities, and practical challenges. It is a place to continue learning, exchange ideas, build confidence, and grow alongside other curious herbalists.
Where books open the door to herbal wisdom.
The Rooted Circle is an adult educational book circle exploring ancestral knowledge, herbal wisdom, practical plant knowledge, and community wellness through books, discussion, and hands-on learning.

Read deeply. Study plants. Build confidence. Grow together.
The Herbal Study Circle™ is the signature adult learning community of Ancestral Roots Herb Society (ARHS). It combines the warmth of a book club with the structure of a guided herbal education program, creating a place where adults can read, discuss, practice, and grow alongside a community of curious plant lovers.
Unlike traditional book clubs, the Study Circle doesn't end when you finish the last chapter. Every book becomes a doorway into plant science, traditional herbal wisdom, hands-on medicine making, botanical art, seasonal living, and meaningful conversation.

Every month follows the same philosophy:
Read • Observe • Practice • Create • Share
You'll explore one botanical theme through thoughtfully selected books, featured herbs, practical projects, and guided discussions. Whether you're completely new to herbalism or already filling your own apothecary shelves, the Study Circle helps transform information into everyday knowledge.
The Herbal Study Circle is designed as a progressive curriculum rather than a collection of random books. Each year builds upon the previous one, allowing members to develop genuine herbal literacy.
Year One — Foundations
Learn the language of herbalism, 30 essential herbs, body systems, tea making, kitchen herbalism, seasonal wellness, gardening, and the principles of safe everyday herbal practice.
Year Two — Deepening Practice

One of the greatest benefits of joining the Herbal Study Circle is access to the growing herbal education library housed on Holistic Life Balance Advisor (HLBA)—Joanne Jackson's professional herbal education platform. Rather than recreating hundreds of pages of content inside ARHS, the Study Circle uses HLBA as its digital classroom and reference library.
